Stock image of a Red Kite (Milvus milvus) taken in Galloway Forest Park - Scotland - part of a population of some 60 breeding pairs since re-introduction in 2001- the Scottish Red Kite population is at the beginning of the breeding season and ornithologists hope for an increase in the local populations across the country. There were concerns last year that bad weather during April and May might have impacted on breeding numbers though figures issued suggested a record 314 birds fledged and of those approximately 100 were in the Galloway Forest area. The RSPB are currently collating information to put a value on the economic impact of Red Kite to Galloway and a report will be issued at the end of this month (April) - Picture by Donald MacLeod 1.4.12 07702 319 738 clanmacleod@btinternet.com
