Michael Portillo and fellow Art Fund Prize judges visited the new Robert Burns Birthplace Museum in Alloway, one of the ten museums in the running for the much-coveted £100,000 Art Fund Prize. The Robert Burns Birthplace Museum is among ten museums and galleries to be long listed for the prestigious accolade, and the only institution in Scotland. Other contenders include the British Museum, the V&A and the People's History Museum in Manchester.The Art Fund Prize 2011 rewards excellence and innovation in museums and galleries across the UK for a project completed or undertaken in 2010. Michael Portillo will be accompanied by four fellow judges: artist Jeremy Deller, Guardian journalist Charlotte Higgins and Antiques Roadshow expert and curator Lars Tharp and Lola Young, Baroness Young of Hornsey.
